We had the pleasure of chatting with Nabil Cook from Omega Solutions. Nabil gave us an inside look on energy modelling and capital expenditure for CO2 Transcritical systems. 

Here is the breakdown:

Modelling energy and capital expenditure for the following:

  • Refrigeration plant and fixtures
  • Heating
  • Air-conditioning 

This modelling was based on a 3,000 sq. ft. UK convenience store.

One with open-fronted MT (chilled) cabinets

35kW MT + 5kW LT

One with doored MT cabinets

18kW MT + 5kW LT

Transcritical CO2 Booster with intermediate vessel and flash gas return

Parallel compression version



Strategies:

  • No heat recovery
  • Heat recovery no boost
  • Heat recovery boosted discharged pressure
  • Heat recover boosted discharge pressure, gas cooler bypass

Heating tech. – CO2 heat recovery direct to cassettes:

  • False load on CO2 system
  • Gas boiler
  • R32 heat pump direct to cassettes
  • R290 heat pump through water to cassettes
  • R450A cascade source heat pump (CO2 source heat)
